General Information
Prices are per person.
Our minimum age for riding tours is 10. Please inquire if you have younger child for a riding tour.
Depending on riding experience we lead children under the age of 10. We do not under any circumstances let children ride with their parents/companion.
At Skorrahestar we insist that all our guests use riding helmets. We provide helmets, rain clothes and saddle bags (optional).
It is advisable to have your own personal insurance when joining one of our riding tours.
All tours are undertaken at the participants own risk.
Discounts are given to groups of 4+. Please contact us to get discount.
Safety rules
Backpacks, selfie sticks and large cameras cannot be taken on horseback. Small waist bags and phones are allowed. If it is necessary to bring more things with you, please inform our guide, and see if he can bring a saddle bag. Due to possible damage to unborn children and the woman herself in case of an accident, pregnant women are not permitted to join riding tours.
People under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating drugs are not permitted on the riding tours.
Rating your horseback riding ability
This is a critically important first step in choosing a riding tour. For most of our multi-day riding trips, you must have a very good knowledge of the basics and some experience in riding cross-country.
For the 1 or 2 hours riding trips no riding experience is required.
The tour guide has full authority to exclude a rider from a trip for inability to ride or behavior that endangers the other riders or the horses. No refunds will be made under these circumstances.
Responsibility of ride participants
Ride participants have a certain responsibility to Skorrahestar and to the other members of the ride. Participants are responsible for understanding the requirements of the ride, and for selecting a ride appropriate to their ability. Participants with medical problems or special dietary needs are responsible for informing Skorrahestar of these issues well in advance. For the protection of all participants, the tour guide reserves the right to prevent anyone from riding who displays insufficient ability, or whose behavior endangers the safety of other riders, themselves, or the horses. No refund will be made to a participant who is rejected fo any such reasons or who is unwilling or unable to complete a tour. Participants are responsible for understanding what is and is not included in the price as outlined in the detailed ride itineraries.
Caution
It is the rider‘s responsibility to assess their own level of riding proficiency. If uncertain, please check with Skorrahestar before booking your tour. Please also note that riding is at your own risk.
Icelandic horses are capable of carrying adults without difficulty. The maximum weight is 100kg but it may also depend on riding experience, physical condition, height and the type of tour you wish to book. Participants on our tours must be able to mount a horse with little to no assistance. Please contact us for more information.
Bio security measures
To protect the Icelandic horse from infectious diseases, visitors are asked to adopt strict bio security measures. Riding clothes and boots must be disinfected before you arrive, used riding equipment’s such as bridles, whips etc. may not be imported. We will send you the official disinfection instructions by request. Prepare for all kind of weather when travelling to Iceland. Bring warm clothes, gloves, ear band, warm jacket and good shoes!
Booking of short riding tours
Short riding tours (1 and 2 hours) can be booked through the website or by e-mail/phone.
Booking of 1 day riding tours
Day tours (3, 4 and 5 hours) can be booked by e-mail and/or phone.
Booking of Multi-day tours
You can book the longer riding tours by e-mail and phone. Accommodation on our long riding tours will be in Skorrahestar guesthouse. On our riding tours you will get full board. Normally we start and end with a breakfast on the long tours. Full board includes breakfast, lunch (sandwiches, fruits etc.) and a big warm meal for dinner. Homemade cakes are often served. If you are vegetarian or vegan, please inform the staff prior arrival. We provide coffee, tea and water. Alcoholic drinks are not included!
For the longer tours we can pick up and drop off our guests at the airport or the bus station in Egilsstaðir. To protect the environment we try to limit the number of transfers. Please inform us at what time you arrive in Egilsstaðir, but note that we may not pick you up immediately after you arrive. We can always help you out finding a coffee house, book store etc. if you need to wait for 1-2 hours.
Cancellation information
Our cancellation terms for our short and day tours are as follows:
• Cancellations have to be made by e-mail or phone.
• If cancelled 6 hours before arrival no cancellation fee is charged.
• If cancelled less than 6 hours before arrival up to 100% cancellation fee may be charged.
Our cancellation terms for our long tours are as follows:
• Cancellations have to be made by letter or e-mail.
• A cancellation made with less than six weeks but more than three weeks’ notice is subject to 20% of the tour price.
• A cancellation made with less than three weeks and more than one week notice is subject to 50% of the tour price.
• Is a cancellation made with less than one weeks’ notice 100% of the tour price must be paid.
If a tour is cancelled by Skorrahestar due to insufficient participation, such cancellation must be made with at least 4 weeks’ notice and Skorrahestar will make every effort to provide similar alternative arrangements without additional cost to the buyer. Should the alternative not be to the buyer’s satisfaction a full refund will be made. Individual travel insurance is not included in the tour prices. We encourage clients to obtain relevant travel insurance before visiting Iceland.
Liability
Skorrahestar reserves the right to alter routes, itineraries or timetables without prior notice, should it be necessary. No liability is accepted for loss or expenses due to delays or changes of arrival or departures of flights or other services, injury, sickness, accident, strikes, damage, weather, or other causes outside the control of Skorrahestar. The traveler himself has to take care of all such losses and expenses.
Insurance
Before travelling on a trip, we strongly recommend you review your personal insurance and health insurance to ensure you have coverage appropriate to meet your needs, and the needs of your family and dependents, in the case of any loss of property or illness, injury or death.
Privacy Policy
Skorrahestar values your privacy and we are committed to protecting and safeguarding any personal information you give us.
Skorrahestar never gives out, sells, rents or shares your personal information with a third party, except in the following circumstances:
- We respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal processes, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims.
- We believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, or as otherwise required by law.
- We limit access to personal information about you to employees who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information to provide products or services to you or in order to do their jobs.
Comments or complaints
Skorrahestar‘s goal is to provide solid and professional customer service. Should our clients be for any reason dissatisfied with the service provided, either by us or by our co-operation partners, we wish to hear about such as soon as any incident arises. Should our client be unable to do so at the time, we request that this is done as soon as possible by e-mail, not more than 20 days after departure from Iceland. If complaints have not been placed within that time frame, compensation rights may be jeopardized.

Law and venue
This agreement is in accordance with Icelandic law. Any legal action because of this shall be brought for the District court of East Iceland.
